Programme for 2021/2022

It's been a long time since there have been any meetings, and the blog has been properly updated.  Maggie has done sterling work in planning and booking dates for the new session, which starts on 15th September. Details on the tab at the top of the page.

I'm also copying and pasting part of Maggie's email about the new sessions (which everyone will have received) about Covid precautions in the hall. Please read carefully and contact Maggie if you have any concerns.

"The good news is that Guthrie Hall is now open again and we will be able to start our 2021/22 programme, albeit with some restrictions to deal with the dreaded Covid……. I understand that not all members may not yet feel comfortable meeting in a group indoors, but the committee will do everything it can to make sure that the Hall is well aired, social distancing (1 metre) is adhered to, and that all touch points etc are cleaned before and after Hall use.  As per Scottish government guidance, (hand sanitising),  and masks will be required when entering,  moving around the Hall (going to the loo), but not when seated.

The programme this year will be a little different - we are not starting with our usual catch-up and afternoon tea.  We are starting on 15th September with a Talk by Issy Valentine ‘ Young at Heart’.  Entrance will be through the main door (not the kitchen entrance), where you will be asked to confirm your phone number (for track and trace).  You are free to move around the Hall and catch up with old friends, but please wear a mask when doing so. Tea and coffee will be served after the Talk, but we recommend that you bring your own mug/cup, only two committee members will have access to the kitchen (so no washing up of mugs), you can of course bring your own drinks - flask, or water if you prefer."

Let's hope this awful virus will be knocked on the head and that we can resume some semblance of normal life again.

April ATCs - Spring

 Here is the latest batch of ATCs for the month of April on the theme of Spring. Some great little pieces of works, and some imaginative interpretations of the theme. Do contact us if anyone else wants to join in the next challenge.

March ATC Swap - Trees

 We have done our second swap of ATCs, this time the theme was ‘Trees’, and a lovely little wood we have created in stitch. If anyone who is not on the Facebook group wants to join in for the next one, just contact me, Debbie or Maggie and we'll see you get the details. When we eventually meet again we'll have a mini exhibition of all these small delights. Click on the images to enlarge.

Still Stitchin'!

 It's been a long time since the last post, but not much has changed. We are all still 'gated' and confined, and it doesn't look likely that we'll be meeting soon. The Facebook page was quiet for a while, I think everyone is just so scunnered and deflated with it all. So Debbie and I set up an Artist Trading Card swap, and below are pics of the creations. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, they are either credit card size or postcard size pieces of works, usually with a theme and a deadline, and we have a recipient to swap with. Just using what we already have, no need to purchase anything except a stamp to post it, and a bit of fun. We chose the theme 'Ocean', and it has got us out of our ruts and stitching again. It's really a pleasure to get such a delightful surprise in the post.

Everyone has enjoyed making these little creations, and we may well have another one soon. If you would like to take part let Debbie or myself know, it doesn't matter if you are not on Facebook, I can post the info on here, and we'll make sure you get to know about it all.

Another Update

 The Angus Halls committee will be meeting at the end of October to discuss developments, but at the moment the hall at Guthrie remains closed. Present Scotgov guidelines are no more than six people from two households can meet indoors, so not looking good for clubs such as ours. We'll keep you informed of any updates. Our secretary is doing sterling work liaising with speakers and tutors, so hopefully we'll have something ready to go when we can eventually resume. In the meantime, you can take part in discussions on our Facebook page, and post pics of what you've been doing. Or if you just want to chat about anything, and keep in touch with friends.

Update on the September session

 Hallo Everyone,

hope you are all keeping well and busy. I have received an update from Maggie Hodges, our Secretary, and it's not great news. We should have been having our first meeting on Wednesday 9th September, with an afternoon tea, but unfortunately events have conspired against us and due to Covid we are not able to meet.

The next speaker would be 23rd September, Izzy Valentine, though this may well not take place either. Maggie will let everyone know either way by email by the 16th.

Isobel Law is scheduled to give a talk on 7th October, and a day school is booked for 15th October with Morag Grey, and a stitch and chat on 21st October. I will upload the full programme in a few days, but it is very fluid at the moment, so could change at any time.

But as they say in the press, 'Watch This Space!'
